marriages and births abroad

Can anyone help I dont know how to find any information on british people who were abroad ie ceylon when they got married or had children |

Stella, If the birth, marriage, or death was registered with HM Forces overseas, or a British Consul, you might be able to obtain a British Certificate. I suggest that you contact the General Register Office's Overseas Section (+44 (0)151 471 4801) to explain what you are looking for and when the event might have taken place. Overseas Section should be able to tell you whether they hold overseas registrations for that time. If that doesn't work, you will probably have to apply to the government of the country concerned. In that event, I suggest you contact the relevant Embassy or High Commission in London (assuming you are in UK)and ask for the contact details of the Registrar of Births, Marriages, and Deaths.
