After months of putting my information into a data base that contains alot of ancestors, I have just deleted it all by mistake and cannot recover it. Like a big wally I never took a back up either. As my husband says, I will only do that once. Karen

Bad luck Karen - what a nightmare! I hope you kept a written copy of your findings somewhere to copy from. I'm off to back up my data now! Alison

Karen Does your computer have a recycle bin on the desktop? If it does, double click on it and have a look in there. I'm not sure what exactly goes in and what doesn't, but its worth a try. Hope you're lucky! Sandra - Lancs

Thanks for the tip Sandra, tried it but no luck, it wasn't in the recycle bin. Got hubby to look (he works with computers, or at leat thats what he tells me)and he can't find it either. My only saving grace is I have found a disc that I updated on in Feb that has some of the info on but as the data base grew it wouldn't fit on a floppy so had to use hard drive. It will teach me to use a back up and take more care with what I'm deleting. At least putting all the info back on will keep me out of trouble for a while ha ha Karen

Oh your poor sod! I would be gutted. It is funny that this should be mentioned as I had this thought just a couple of days ago and started writing out all the info that I have on my PC just in case I should do anything stupid. I hope it doesn't take you too long to do it all again. I feel so sorry for you....all that hard work.... you have my sympathies!

Tricia, that info would be great. Thank you all for your sympathy. I have put most of the names back in, its just a matter of filling in the other info that I have. It's a good job I keep paper copies as well. Karen

i thought i had done that each time i looked there was nothing in my family tree programme and although i couldn't remember deleting it - thought here we go - lo and behold after i had inserted all the names again, there was suddenly two sets aaagghhh... now i have to gradually undo the second lot.. hevi
