adding relatives ?

can anyone tell me how to had a relative to GC idont know the year or place he was born so i cannot put that info in,and when itry it just keeps telling me to add year and were he was born. christine |

For the year take a guess and tick the "approximate" box which makes the entry "circa". Use a near relative to work it out at, say, 25 years for a generation. For the place put in as close as you can get, e.g. country if you don't know the county, or county if you don't know the town. |

Thanks Brian for that idea,but i have noticed on some names it says year unknown or not available, so why cant i put that in? |

That would be on search where there is no entry in that field because the member's file has been uploaded from Gedcom. If you are putting manual entries in then you must put something in those fields. You can put unknown or not available if you wish, but in my opinion something is better than what is effectively nothing. |

When I really don't know when people were born or where they come from, or even their names, I just enter 0000 in the year of birth box and tick the "circa" box and just enter "unknown" in the other boxes. It's not much, but it lets you enter the people without all the info and then you can go back and fill the unknowns in later. |
