Good morning Gary - My Great Uncle Geo rge was in India and Africa. All we had was a medal with his Reg.No. on it - from this we found his Military discharge papers in the PRO at Kew. Have a look at Tracing your ancestors in the PRO by Amanda Bevan or Ancestral Trails by Mark D Herber, got mine at the library. Many thanks for all your help to me over the past few days. Sue. |

Maureen For the Boer War you could try looking for war memorial details with one of the search engines. A number have been recorded. Prior to this there were no war memorials. The major wars in the 18C before the Boer War were either fighting the natives in Africa, India and China I doubt if there is much recorded for the common soldier who died there and was buried in a mass grave. There may be regimental details on the fallen of the Crimea War if you know the regiment. Regards Gary |
