Through the 1891 census I have traced my GGrandfather to Shropshire but sadly am unable to decipher the name of the village. He was born c.1846 and his name was James Alexander Thomas. His father was called Charles Frederick Thomas. Can anyone help with details of this family?? |

On 1881 Census there's a James Thomas of the right age at Middleton Road, Oswestry, Shropshire but his father is Thomas Thomas c.1815. Could this be the right person? |

Helen I found James on the 1881 census when he was living in Liverpool and it gives his birthplace as Shropshire. He is also on the 1891 census and it gives the village in Shropshire but it is nigh on impossible to read! however April has managed to decipher it ! - I didn'realise that it was on the previous page - thankyou so much April ! |

Sadly Middleton is a red herring! It was a different James Alexander Thomas. If anyone has the time and access to 1891 census look at James Alexander Thomas transcribed as being born in "Lanre Vilays" and see if you can decipher it _ all suggestions greatfully received! |

Virginia Post a new message with the 'Lanre Vilays'in the title box. I'm sure someone was querying this place name (or something very similar)a couple of months ago and got some replies. I think it was before we got these new boards though so you won't be able to look back for it. |
