Lisa - try the PRO - they realy do have a lot of military stuff. I began with a phone call, the staff are very friendly and willing to help. They can also help you find the regt.etc. Sue. |

Jason, that's interesting, my great-uncle also died on HMS Queen Mary, he was a 'petty officer stoker'. Perhaps they knew each other. |

I'm in the same boat. My gradfather survived WWII, and there is little to find about his service. However, my Great Grandfather was killed on HMS Queen Mary in WWI, and I've found a lot about him! This site was informative, though negative in the sense that it tells you there is little to find out.... http://www(.)regiments.org/milhist/uk/lists/ba1800(.)htm Remove the brackets in the above link. For war deaths, this is the place...a very good site (in a morbid kind of way!) http://www.cwgc.org/ The BBC has sites devoted to the wars... http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/war/wwone/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/ The PRO in Kew has military stuff, so if you can get there, you may be able to sift through the indexes and have stab at some records. Hope this helps!! Jason. |

How can I go about finding my grandfathers military details etc. I know he was in the military, strongly think it was the Army, when he was younger. However, thats all I know. (I know other details such as D.o.B etc but not military details). He may have been based somewhere near cornwall as this is where my Grandmother was from. But again I'm not sure. Can anyone help. |
