Heeeeeelp Please How do I find information on a union workhouse Wotton(within) Gloucester My grandmother was born their in 1888 her name was Francis Louisa Lewis and on her birth certificate there is no father and her mother is down as Mary Elizabeth Lewis domestic servant of barton st mary. seems a black sheep in the family but Mary elizabeth seems to be a very common name around gloucester does anyone know if records from the workhouses are available. so far the only gloucester workhouse I have found online has only 1881 records I am willing to leave my keyboard if I can find where to go (think carefully before you tell me !!) here hoping Sandra

Hi I'd suggest contacting the nearest records office and asking what they hold in regard to the workhouse. George

Sandra - C.R Offices should have workhouse admission and discharge registers - but you would need to know which union and parish your ancestor was in. Sue.
