I believe my father has lived in France from the 1960's, (Paris or Marseilles). However I don't have a clue how to check for marriage, death, census, or any other records there. Can anyone suggest where to start?

Dear Taryn As a guess, if he lived in village you could try the Mairie. Or if he lived in a city you could try the Hotel de Ville They are both the local town halls. Good luck Shirely.

Hello Taryn Not sure if this will help you or not but, I have found a web site called Reverso online translater. It's free if you use it for personal and non-commercial use. you can translate in French, German or Spanish. Good Luck Shirley.

Hiya I've been researching my French family from here in the Uk and signed up to some Y.a.h.o.o.groups and Genweb sites for the areas I'm interested in. There's also Geneaweb (do a search on Google or suchlike) where you can look for your family name. If you want to contact me to talk about it try mailing me a message about one of the Gau family on here and I'll send you some links. Bonne chance! A
