I have had exactly the same thing happen to me. I had an e-mail which even promised photos. I have never heard again and it has been quite a while ago. It is v frustrating isn't it!

I made contact through this site 3wks ago with a distant cousin and after one email contact has ceased. There could be many reasons why I have not heard from her. Its possible that she rarely checks her mail or is away. Be patient thats only thing you can do. George

Catherine, It must be really disappointing having made contact and then not to hear anything again. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, maybe they had their reasons.... On the connections that give you false hope topic, I wonder whether anyone else has received a contact and not known whether there is a link or not? I would think so! I received such a mail today from someone with a possible connection to me 4 generations back. Of course I replied imediately but how do we/I go about filling in the gaps? Unfortunately censuses and birth certificates are not an option as this was in the West Indies?? I had almost given up on this branch and now I feel answers are there if only I could dig a little more. Very frustrating!!

I was reading Roberts comments earlier (re: Ignorance) on people who don't reply to e-mail and also don't allow them to see a tree (if there's a connection.) I have contacted 2 people on this site that are relatives, 1 being my half sister whom I had not seen for nearly 30 years, she wrote back all enthusiastic arranged that we should meet then never bothered with me again. The most important to me was a third cousin on my mothers side(My mum passed away in 1996)and this person is the only known alive link, who again seemed overjoyed. after me sending several e-mails she never bothered to reply or give any kind of explanation. So I suppose my message would be that unless you are serious about tracing your family, you shouldn't be putting any names on this site and getting peoples hopes up.Please reply to people even if it's only to say no or not interested. Thanks Still looking.
