Hi, To access the info that Marion has mentioned go to www(.)rootsweb(.)com and click on the link 'threaded archives'. Click on 'B' and scroll until you come to 'British Jewry' . Find 2003/01 and you will find the letter. I have already e-mailed the places suggested and will await any replies with interest. Julie

Hi there Just as a point of interest Clerkenwell Gaol was featured in an episode of "Most Haunted" on UK living. Dis you see it? It really seemed like an awful place, and he was probably there for not very much at all. Regards Maxine

Hi Not sure if it's worth trying the prison service or the records office on this I'm sure the records office though hold details of prisons. catherine

I am interested in any replies as I have an interest in Strangeways Prison, Manchester. Also my grandfather was sent to an Industrial School from the age of 8 till he was 16 for theft. I would like to know more about that, too.

can anyone tell me how to find out why my great great grandfather was a prisoner in Clerkenwell gaol in 1881? I have spent hours searching on the net but all dead ends Thanks Jackie
