If you go on the 1901 census, you can usually do a search on institution, which would include hospitals. If they were a visitor somewhere else or at another house they should have been put down in that household, but the enumerator's sometimes overlooked this info as the householder didn't always tell them they had a visitor because they didn't usually live there. I was under the impression that it was where ever you actualy slept that night. So if you stayed in hospital that night, you'd be under the hospital address.

Hi Karen I was in hospital for the 1991 census and I was included in the hospital list and not at my own address. my husband however was listed at our home address. Tricia

Hi If someone was in hospital or visiting on census night would they have been included. I ask as I have a rellie who is on 1881 & 1891 census but not on the 1901. I know he was still alive as I have his marriage certificate for 1908 but he was a widower then and I was wondering if he could have been visiting his sick wife in hospital and not been included.
