Does anyone know why I can't find any Census Results for Alva in Clackmannanshire. I try every time I log on to scotlandspeople.com but get nothing. Christine.

Hi Christine, I can't seem to get into the site this morning to buy more credits? I know that Alva is the name of the town but is it the name of the parish? I think that they are all listed undrr parish names? I do have a copy of the 1881 Scottish census if I can look anything up for you. Regards Margaret

Hi Margaret, Many thanks for the offer. Would you mind having a look for Helen Fyfe. She would be around 50 years old. The address was possibly 140 Stirling Street, Alva. She should be shown as widowed and have at least one daughter living with her, also called helen. The daughter died the following year as a spinster, aged 19, with the above address. I'm trying to find out if there were any other children still at home. It may be worth checking parishes of Alva and Alloa. Looking at the various certificates I have, some say Alva, Some say Alloa. We even jump around between the counties of Clackmannan and Stirling. It can get confusing. Can you also tell me how to get a copy of the Scotland Census. I have loads to look up and this would make it much easier. Though I now live in New York State, I am Scottish and on all sides we go back at least 4 gemerations before I have to start checking Ireland. Again, Many Thanks for the offer. Best Regards, Christine.
