hi all got a letter from coroners court this morning, my aunt was living in sheltered accomadation at the time of her death. the doctor had been called a few days before & she was given antibiotics (which she failed to take) for a chest infection. she was found on 26 may 1990 dead in her room, by the warden. it was assumed there was no relatives as she had no details of a next of kin. they have supplied some details of probable funeral directors/and the crematorium/cemetary which she may now lie. the next step is to contact these & hope that they can provide me with more details. thanks to all for your help & i will post any results when/if i get them on this thread. elaine

Hi funeral directors dont normal register deaths but lawyers do - i register a number for clients that have passed away and this is either because they have no family or because the family is far away or distressed to do it - it might be worth checking local solicitors to see if they dealt with her at any time, Will files are not destroyed (or shouldnt be) and Probate files are kept for a number of years, but even if they dont have those they would be able to tell you if they acted and maybe some remembers something hevi

Dear Elaine,( sorry I got it wrong 1st. time) It sounds like that the signature was that of the Funeral Director was there an address.?? Now... I'm sorry to have to say that you might not find the site of your relitives grave, being it could well be a "unmarked grave" due to the involement of the local authorities. But you could strike lucky through the Funeral Directors, worth a try. Good luck, MIKE.

thanx MICHAEL IM ASSUMING MY AUNT WAS FOUND ALONE. THE INFORMANT IS SOMEONE WHO WE DONT RECOGNISE. IT STATES THAT MY AUNT WAS CERTIFIED AFTER A POST MORTUM WITHOUT INQUEST. WE DONT THINK THAT THE INFORMANT WAS A RELATIVE AS MY NAN (HER SISTER ) WAS ALIVE AT THE TIME OF MY AUNTS DEATH, AND WOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED SOME WAY OR ANOTHER! (THEY LOST TOUCH,YEARS AGO BUT STILL MY NAN STILL LIVED AT THE SAME HOUSE FOR YEARS.) ALSO WHERE MAIDEN NAME IS ON THE CERT, IT WAS LEFT WITH A LINE THROUGH. A FAMILY MEMBER WOULD HAVE KNOWN HER MAIDEN NAME. IVE WRITTEN DOWN SOME OF THE FUNERAL DIRECTORS IN THAT AREA AND WILL TRY WRITING TO THEM FOR INFO.

Dear Eline, The same details appeared on one of my relitives death certificates. On asking about,( at my Family History Society) we came up with this reason :- 1.) " causing the body to be cremated" was in fact a continuation of details relating to the cause of death which required cremation so as not to contaminate the ground. 2.)Like your relitive mine died alone so the funeral Directors took sole charge of the body and fortunatly the address of the Funral Directors was on the death certificate along with the signature in the space where details of the person giving notice of death to the registrar. HI MAXINE I HAVE THE DEATH CERTIFICATE.I KNOW HER EXACT DATE OF DEATH AND THAT SHE DIED AT HOME. I EMAILED HACKNEY ONLINE WHO TOLD ME TO REFER TO THE CORONERS COURT, WHICH I WROTE TO & GOT NO REPLY!

Hi Elaine From my experience I have found that alot of local authorities etc.. where records may be kept, require an exact date of death (my local crem charges either £10 or £20- I forget which, per year they have to look through!), so it may well help to get a copy of her death certificate. Once you have this it may give an idea of where she died, and if you ring the local library in that area they should be able to point you at the best place to get the information. Regards Maxine

IVE RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT MY GREAT AUNT DIED 26 MAY 1990 IN HACKNEY E5. HER DEATH CERT SAYS "CAUSING THE BODY TO BE BURIED" SHE DIED OBVIOUSLY ALONE & AT HOME, HOW CAN I FIND OUT WHERE SHE WAS BURIED? IVE WRITTEN TO THE CORONERS COURT BUT THEY HAVENT BOTHERED TO REPLY. MANY THANKS ELAINE
