For all those of you with problems with vol,Page references I sympathise but some time the information you are using to key the details is very unclear and all you can do is make your best attempt. There have been sometimes when the only thing possible to read was the surname as the reset was too unclear.

I can only add what Pamela has said. You need the page number

Bruce, what is missing is the page no, you may not have noticed that xxiv is 24 in Roman numerals, but 24 could still be coincidentally the page no and you have transposed them? To order a certificate you need to note, year, quarter, vol no and page no it will look something like 1865, Mar, XXIV, 24 (is possibly just a translation of the volume and the page number needs to be quoted for the cert to be correctly located) Hope this helps to make a successful request. Have a birth registration reference "Vol 24 XXIV". When quoted at FRC no birth certificate can be found. Reference double checked at FRC and seen on 'FreeBMD' Does this occur often and how do I solve this? Regards, Bruce Thanks to all for help. It transpires I did not mention page No in text. This appeared to be 88 in register but have now been advised writing so poor it could be 18 or 68, wherein lies the problem. Once again thanks. Bruce
