Terry try this website, it has lots of 'old' place names that no longer exist and is quite good if you use an asterisk for a wildcard. www(dot)abcounties(dot)co(dot)uk Go to 'gazetteer' when you get onto the site. Just thought I'd mention there is a place called Catcliffe between Sheffield and Rotherham and it was a mining area. Hope this helps

Terence You are right to try different spelling@s as I had a rellie born Cleasby then later on she was on the census born Clerlcy --no such place and have'nt heard of Ratlef have you tried just putting name in or try the Genuki site Ann,Darlington

It's me again with another geog question. Have a relly born in Ratlef Yorks. Can find nothing about the place and have tried changing the spelling. Anyone know if such a place exists ? Terry
