I tried Mike's advice, but it didn't work. In desperation, I followed other advice and clicked 'yes'. I was reluctant to do this cos I don't like being bullied in this way, but so far, so good--no more pop-ups! Clicking 'yes' clears the box immediately and I could carry on with the page I was on. Just a shame genesconnected weren't more helpful with this--could have saved us all a lot of hassle!!

Hi Margeret I am a multimedia designer and the message pop up if you already can view the page is because there is now a later version of the Flash Player. It is COMPLETELY safe to down load provided it is from the macromedia site. It is always useful to have the latest version as you can then view more things. Believe me you will need it sooner rather than later if you are a frequent internet user. Besides you will never be able to view my work!!!! Hope this helps joanna xxx

Thank you for that, Mike. I will try it now. It's a shame that genesconected seem unwilling or unable to fix this. it seems to be a big problem for a lot of people, especially as it is a constant annoyance and because the pop-up prevents any other actvity on screen until you have clicked no. I have emailed genesconnected about this several times but got no help or advice at all.

If you really don't want to install Macromedia's Flash plug-in and you do not want to see these security warnings, here are the steps you need to follow: Start Internet Explorer. Select Tools, then Internet Options. Click on the Security tab and then select Custom Level. Disable the option "Download signed ActiveX controls." Then click OK and restart IE for the changes to take effect. Now you won't be bothered with these security warnings when you hit a Macromedia-enabled site. You also won't be able to download any plug-ins at all. If you want plug-ins but don't want to see the alert, choose the Enable option instead. Keep in mind that enabling downloads for signed ActiveX controls reduces the security of your browser. The preferred method of eliminating these warnings is to go ahead and install the plug-in. CRISTA - Guess what - you're absolutely RIGHT - i've just followed Mike's insructions and as soon as I came back in - THERE IT WAS - B****R - Now what!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do we just download the d***n thing and have done with it? Pop ups are a nuisnace but generally not too intrusive but this one is a pain in the proverbial!!! Sue.

Mike, The info. you gave will NOT stop browser pop ups. The service you are shutting down is XP's Net Send and Alerter service that broadcasts advertisements through the operating system's messaging function instead. Crista

I also get Macromedia Flash Player pop up most times when I'm on GC. I always click no at all times.

XP USERS TO STOP POP UP’S. Click on the “ Start “ icon ( bottom left on task bar ) Go to control Panel and open. Double left click on the icon “ Administrative Tools.” In the next window which comes up. Double left click on the icon “ Services Short cut” In the next window which comes up. Scroll down & Double left click on the file named “ Messenger “ In the next window which comes up. Click on the “ General Tab. “ Click on the scroll bar to the right of “ Startup type.” Left click on disabled. Click on “ apply button” ( bottom right.) Now click “ OK button” X out of all windows. Now restart your computer. This will get rid of 99% of pop up’s. MIKE.

Hi, I am a Web professional and the pop up you are getting is due to some of the content of this website being designed using a piece of web annimation software called macromedia flash. It is a safe download as they are the largest web development tool company like microsoft is for office applications. Some websites you will not be able to view without the player but as for this one it seems like it is just the advert at the top that uses the player so it shouldn't affect your viewing of this site. As regards the removal of the pop up, your machine will automatically see that you do not have this player and ask you if you want to install it almost everytime you view any site that uses macromedia flash. Flash player is harmless it is required to display animations on the web. I got the message at home and i think it is because of the banner at the top of the page. At work I dont get the message because i have the latest version of flash player. Unless you download it, it wont go away unfortunately. Good luck, I know it can be very annoying otherwise. Ali
