I went to one of our local museum shops over the weekend and noticed an old map, of an area of Manchester that my rellies lived within, from 1849.It was only £2 and it shows all the old streets and a list of shops and retailers of the time. The publisher is Alan Godfrey Maps, Prospect Business Park, Leadgate, Consett DH8 7PW.If you send an SAE they will send you a list of all the old maps you can purchase. I'm sure OS will have a local publisher for any area if you contacted them. Not just Manchester. Hope this info helps Catherine
