Hi, I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your help and suggestions. Its been really interesting for me these last few weeks, trying to discover any info about Ah Sze Yang (otherwise 'Lin Ko Lin'). Sadly it looks like Ive hit a brick wall, but we did discover that the Symbols were Mandarin, which means that is is quite likely to have come from the Shanghai area - or one of the provinces close by. Also we discovered that the translations of his name is 'forest heavy rain'. But this is as far as we can go for now! A special big big thanks to Ann, Christa and Walter! Hi Sarah I don't know if this will help but there is a translation site which you might be able to use. It won't take symbols but you could put in the name in English you think it is - then it will give you symbols in Chinese. http://dictionary.reference. last bit- com/translate/text.html For some reason it won't take full details together. Hello again! Well just a quick note, we went to our local Chinese tonight (my bellys full!) But unfortunatly, I didnt get much help, they translated the first symbol - which means Lin, which is part of his name, but other than that they could tell me know more... So if anybody else is having a Chinese takeaway, and would like a copy of the Symbols to take with them, then please email me and I will gladly send you a copy of it! Hello again Sarah! One problem with the above. Do you know whether the symbols are in Mandarian or Cantonese? There are some striking differences in the meanings between the 2 languages to the point that a symbol could be completely misundertood in the other language.
