Dear Dianne. There always had to be a Registrar at a Catholic church wedding. So ther were two certs, one kept in the church register, and one in the Registrar a copy of this was given to the couple. In recent years, when Registrars kicked against having to attend Church weddings on Saturdays,it was arranged that the priest nominated a responsible member of the church to witness the wedding,in lieu of the Registrar. There are not two seperate weddings,Catholics only need the priest, but it is the rule of the country to have the Registrar bit.Hope this helps. Margaret
