I cannot find Dorothy Broadley who according to 1881 census was born in Coundon, Durham. I know she got married to Joseph Smith in 1881 after the census. Feeling very frustrated as I cannot find her. Open to any suggestions. Jim

Hi all, Thanks for your input. I have her marriage certicate, and she is the one that you have found on 1881 census, Her father is Richard Broadley. She was 29 when she got married in 1881 Jim

Ah Deb! You would have been miles out with your Auckland, Australia! And probably miffed a few thousand Kiwis as well! ;)Auckland is in New Zealand! Apparently the NZ one is supposed to be named after the English one. Warm regards Sonja

James, Are you sure you have the wrong marriage cert, does the 1881 census show a different fathers name, if it is just the age problem I would ignore it people lied about their age, or the numbers could have been transcribed copies incorectly. Have you looked on 1881 for the clone Dorothy whose marriage cert you have, this would show if there are two or not for certain, othewise i am not sure why you think this isnt the correct one. Pam

Hi Jim Can't help with Dorothy, but if your rellies lived at Cockfield for a period we may have a connection. My Heron family were there in the 2nd half of the 18th century, and probably before and after. Jim

James, Not that I can think of, I searched from 1845 to 1862 on FBMD for both Broadley and Bradley in Durham that was the only one which came up, birth dosent seem to be on IGI but there are entrys for both Auckland Churches, could just be too late. Other than checking if there are indexes anywhere for Parish records (and if you are distant from Durham Record Office and you phone them, if there is an inded they may well look it up. The yave a web catalogye so you can check what they have. Pam
