I've been looking on the 1901 census and came across Wast Manghing as an occupation, there were 2 on one page, what on earth is it? Also was there another name for Midwife in those days? Meryl

I think 'Monthly nurse' is possibly a term for midwife.

At a guess i would say 'Waste manager/ment', have you checked the original or roughly know what they were doing in 1891?

One of my ancesters profession was written down as mangling which I think is doing washing in a mangler. your words could mean wash mangler but the person that wrote it down couldnt read the original properly. Debbie

Waste management sounds much too modern a term. I think the mangling washer women sound more likely.

Ive checked on 1881 and 1891 and there were waste managers then
