thanks tony... well- i see some of them on the 1881 census....my william moon is the farthest back i go....it seems to be a common name in the gateshead area as well, but according to 1881 census he was born in spalding, lincoln. I can find no other records - guess i was hoping more someone might be buried next to or with them that might give clues..... and anyone that can find a thomas ivison age 6 with parents william and fanny anywhere in england ion 1901 please let me \know........

Hiya Thomas, gateshead Library is 5 minutes walk away from me, can i help? I'm off work today so could have a nip up there but it would help tremendously if you had adresses because the files are arranged in alphabetical order according to street names. Tracy White

Thomas Report 17 Sep 2003 06:06

been on holiday - well - the search intensifies...had access to ancetry and the census./...got some great info..and saw my GF...got a few questions answered...but think that info off the cemetary stones would be my best clue on my stuck branches..... heres to hoping that i can convince someone the family to go spelunking... am still willing to do searches at ontario archives or at reference library....they have ancestry free!!!!

Tom,That would be great! Be thankful your West Derby family came from Scotland, mine came from Ireland, and it's a nightmare, plus they all have the same names, with the eldest child always James, followed by Thomas and David, with the girls being Mary,Annie and Sarah,in that order!

hi paul - well when it comes to the ivisons its even worse. My gr grandfather was supposedly born in may 1895, but i can't find him or his family anywhere...... 1901 census has been no help- however they did find me more concrete evidence of the dears family...... have uncovered gr grandmother elsie ellen waters moon born in 1904 on freebmd, but poor tom is nowhere to be found...if only i could get a cousin in gateshead interested in any of this.......

Tom, I've just checked an old photo I have of Darlington Excelsior Football Club 1905-06. There is an E.A Iveson on the back row looking about 20 years. Slightly different spelling but any chance it could be one of yours? Darlington is less than an hours drive south of Gateshead Paul

Tom, the Gateshead Central Library has the 1851 Cenus indexed by surname and each page has been scanned and put into a book. It makes finding ancestors very easy. Its an hours drive for me, so next time I go, I will have a look. Send me an email of your Gateshead ancestors & I will put it on file until my next visit Paul

diane, i'm headin gto the library today and gonna check city directories for thomas cowdrey. I looked at the info you gave me and i'm wondering if catherine from 1866 might be my gr gr gandfathers sister. if it is then they must have come from scotland even earlier. (sometime btw 1861 and 1866) james (my gr gr grandfather) and his mother mary were at 92 hopwood dr in liverpool in 1881...wonder if they were already in liverpool in 1871...may help me find the death of his dad. It's way more difficult doing any searches on this side of the atlantic... so any help i can be over here i'll gladly be and any help anyone can give me over there is appreciated

yes - i did mean near liverpool..i guess i should have been more specific... I recognize a couple of the dears from freebmd...think the one in 1895 is a sister.... There more curious to get more about certian gravestones......if they were here or there were trranscriptions...i'd know what i was looking for....... theres a few people that i have very little info about. I'll check in the Toronto city directories next time i'm at that library and see if there is can find a listing - may find child taking over address at some point.... Tom

Hi,Tom, I have a lot of ancestors in West Derby too,but unfortunatly live a few hundred miles away.I do hope to get up there within the next few months though.I had a quick look at BMD,and Dear doesn't appear to be very commen in West Derby, these are the only deaths registered in West Derby on there;Catherine Dears,1866,age 10,George Dear,1881,age 17,John Dear,1883,age 62,William Dear,1892,age 55,Ellen Dear,1893,age 50,Catherine Dears,1895,age 2 and Herman Dears, age 49. Hope this helps a little bit. If you ever come across a Thomas Edward Cowdrey, let me know! He emigrated to Toronto in the 1950's with his wife Queenie, and seemed to disappear. He is quite likely to be deseased now as he was born in 1910,but they had 2 children, and his brother is still alive,so you never know. I'll send you an email through the site when i'm going to west Derby, and if you still need lookups I'll be happy to help.

Hello Tom. Sorry not able to look up cemetaries for you but have you been on the IGI. I found and Eliza Dear died 11 Jan 1922.She was born 17 sept 1838 Chesterfield Derby. Married Walter Mansfield who was born about 1836 England and died 8 April 1885. There is a lot of Moons deaths in County Durham but I didn't see any actually in Gateshead. Sorry that's the best I can do. May
