Hi Jennifer, You can get the General Register Office to do a search for you, I know they do a three year search for 4.50 GBP, and Im pretty positive that they do a wider search for a fee. You can give them a call on +44(0)8702437788 and they will tell you exactly how much the search will cost, and how wide a search they can perform. As long as you have his name, approximate DOB, and approximate place/date of death, they should be able to help! Good Luck and Best Wishes Sarah

There are still members of a Moon family living in Hastings - at least there were a few years ago, because I worked with some. Can't remember first names now though. Jan.

Sorry, I don't belong to any of the local societies, because none of my family came from this area. Jan.

wow! thank you Marion, Kim and Jan for all the responses!, i had that info. but to me none of the dates tie in with the 1891 and 1901 census or am i doing something wrong, i have already ordered the wrong James Moon marriage so maybe i am being a little too careful, i have phoned the cemetery but they say i need the date of death ( a 10 year span is too big), but thank you all again, will keep thinking and keep checking free bmd, does anyone belong to the Hasting and Rother family society or Sussex family society, maybe i should do that, i don't know!

I live in St. Leonards, which is next door to Hastings. There is only one cemetary on the Ridge, but its huge. Can't offer to visit, as I don't have a car and its a very long way from where I live, but if you have enough information I'll have a go at telephoning for you. Jan

Sorry but it only gives the index reference numbers so you can order a certificate. I would recommend that the exact date and place of death is confirmed first and then most cemetaries will do a search or let you do one. Maz. XX

in Hastings, Sussex is where my great-grandfather James Moon is buried i think (born 1827/1828 but don't know date - per census's) but i cannot find out when he died, he is on the 1891 census but not the 1901 but his wife Charlotte is in St. Leonard's, does anyone have any thoughts of what to do next, i am in Ontario, Canada, thanks
