A while ago I asked for some guesses as to the real names of my dad's sisters who were known by the names: Hetty, Mary, Birdie, Dolly and Mabs. They so far have turned out to be respectively: Harriet, Evelyn, Bertha not found yet and am certain (probably) Mabel. I said I would let you know so here it is. Roger

and I thought it was only in my family that people were known by names completely unrelated to those they were given at birth .... Maz (LOL at Mary/Evelyn - my dad was Alfred George, known to everyone as David!!) XX

A Great Aunt of mine was called Dolly...and that was her real name,apparantly she was tiny at bith and looked like a Doll, therefore Dolly. My husband also has an Aunt Doll, who's real name is Dorothy. Lynda

I aalso had an Aunt Doll. Her name was Dorothy, but my Mother in law is also called Doll but her name is Doris.
