Member Since: August 2003 Posts: 98 Send Message	My gt gt grandfather John Reddell was born 1858, his father's name John Reddell is on the birth certificate. John Reddell snr was married to an Elizabeth Ludlaw she is named as mother, but the informant of the birth is an Elizabeth Woodcock described as Occupier. Was it usual for someone other than the parents to register the birth. I know John snr survived for a number of years after the birth but I'm not sure about the mother.

It always made me wonder what if the person who registered the birth came back and told you that they'd decided to call the baby something else because you'd annoyed them for some reason. Doesn't bear thinking about really. Have had a look at this site and found it very interesting it also answered my question. Thanks for the info Lorraine
