Hi again Geargina Just noticed all the lead miners in your family. Great grandad Thomas Shaw was from Allendale, Northumberland and when my grandad Hugh was born to him and grandma Sarah Smith in 1874 they still lived there and he was a lead miner too! This could of course just be because it was a lead mining area and dead common but who knows! So Sarah moved from Alston to Allendale to Gateshead. Cheers and happy searching Linda x

Hi George My 1881 census shows my great grandma Sarah Smith as being 29 yrs old and I think Ive traced her father as Jacob and mother as Jane? Could be a connection somewhere though couldnt there? Fancy having such a common name and making our investigations harder! Inconsiderate lot! How many Smiths you think were in Alston at that time? Will keep you posted if I can get any further. Linda x

Hi Vera, type the address in without the brackets just the dots. If you type any web address on the boards we are supposed to put brackets around the dots. Shirley
