Hello Sue, Yes, I found That an interesting site too. Another good site is UKVillages(.) co(.) uk Linda in East Sussex.

This one lists villages and towns in UK. You can register and search for names or post your messages. You don't have to pay except if you want to be a full member (I'm not).
