Susan Thanks for your help finally got round to looking at actual image and upon reading it it certainly looks to me that it may be a transcribing error and is in fact Coulby. It looks like he's on board a ship called 'Courier' Thanks again for help Shelli

Susan thanks for that info will give it a go, didn't know you do that in advanced search. Well they say you learn somehting new everyday and I guess it's true. Have got voucher for 1901 so may have a peek at it. It's certainly a possibility shelli

Shelli I went to Advanced Person Search, enterered COUL*, William, and put a tick in the box for Vessel search only. I assume you will have to pay to see the full census record. Sue

Susan maybe I just don't know is the honest answer, Lucy has found some Caulbys in london in 1891 for me. I've found a poss birth in dec 1/4 1883 which is close enough. This family is driving me crazy, I wouldn't mind but it's not even mine it hubby's and he's not even interested how did you find him? is he on board or on land? Shelli

I had a relative William Lawrance Coulby, who in 1901 whould have been 18 appox. On his marriage cert in 1909 he's listed as a sailor,as I can't find him in 1901, i thought he may be on board a ship. But how do I search vessels if I don't which one he may be on? Shelli
