Hi there, Does anyone know how I can locate some people that I have found to be related to me? I know where they were born but it was in the 20's,30's and 50's and may have moved away from there. I would so like to make contact with them if they're still alive. How do I find them? Has anyone got any tips?

I'd try Friends Reunited and see if anyone has registered on there. It probably won't be the case for those born in the 20s and 30s but the 1950s might have. I have this problem as well, my gran and grandad split up in the 1950s and my dad stayed with his father. As far as I know his mum had no contact with him after she left. I'd like to trace my gran but because its probable she remarried (she was only 27 when they split up) I've no idea what surname she now goes under! Or in fact if she's still alive. Good luck with them Rachel

Hi Alison, There are a number of very helpful members on here who might look up the electoral roll for you. That will only give you the name and address. It's helps it the name is not too common and you know the area that they might be living in. I have found lots of living relatives that way. Try posting the details on here. You can also try the trying to find board which as had some amazing results. Have you tried bt(.)com for directory enquiries? Hope this helps. Regards Margaret

Have you tried looking for them in/on the equivalent of Directory Enquiries? Or possibly the Electorals, which will be held at the local Record Offices, but you do have to go there and search them yourself. It helps that people generally did not move about quite so much as they do now. Good Luck. Rosi

Perhaps a rough guess at when they might have married, and then a trawl through 1837 Online for a marriage or three? Bebb is not a very common name - so there is a good chance of finding the right ladies. Unless you strike very lucky it will not be cheap tho as you may have to search a lot of years. Good Hunting, Rosi

Hmm, I have that problem with regards my father's cousins. I managed to find two Cook cousins, simply due to the fact that their mother had an uncommon maiden name. Although there's a good chance that they're both still alive (one would be 77, the other 72), I doubt I can progress much further when they could have easily moved away from the area where they were born, and their full names are about as run-of-the-mill as you can get.
