Hi On the 1881 census one of my relatives is listed as being born in llansarnpaid, Denbigh. Does anyone know if this is spelt correctly or where it is? Thanks, Jen.

It sounds very much like LLansantfraid which is on the coastal road A487 about 10 miles south of Aberystwyth. There are 4 others in Powys. Jim

Have a look at http www gazetteer-wales [co] [uk] There is a list of place names and also another one of postal addresses. Try a search on the mapping site slike streetmap co uk and GetMap Try a general WWW search. It is not unusual for Welsh places names to get mangled in the Census! Martin
