Thank you to everyone who has given me tips and advice on visiting the FRC. I'm sure I will enjoy myself once I get there! Penny PS Someone said you could spend a fortune - what exactly do you have to pay for?

If you got to their website, it gives you info on when coach parties are going, so you then know it will be busier

The best advice is to definitely make a list before you go, as to what exactly you want to look up - think of it as a shopping list! You'll find that the time just races away when you're there, and I always find the last 30 mins to be a bit frantic. :-) Andy.

I went in the Summer & stumbled in like a village idiot asking for basic help, and they were great! A bit overwhelming as so much to look through so I decided to concentrate on one branch of the family. - Planning closely what you want would be a good idea & don't get too sidetracked - as I did. Also there is internet access upstairs & I found computerised records that I haven't seen anywhere else. It was excellent and you could spend a small fortune.

I go to Kew every few months...it is vast! Apart from the 1901 census and the BMD records, everything else is quite complicated and time consuming. I always find it an interesting day out. What is the FRC like? I know it has all the census records but I am wondering what format the BMDs are in....are they just indices?..or do you get a bit more? Sue Surrey

Penny I normally go on a Monday or Tuesday and its not terribly busy. You sometimes need to wait for desks near your books to come free if you dont want to be carrying them all across the rooms buts that it really. Best advice is to write out what your wanting to research so if you can't get at what you want straight away you have something else ready to do. And its great fun and everyones very friendly Zoe

I can only go there on Saturdays so I can't compare what it's like with any other day. I would expect Saturday to be busier than a weekday but it's not too bad when I go, I don't find that I'm getting held up in any way. I shall be going again a week tomorrow. Be prepared for some heavy lifting, Penny!

I am planning my frist trip to the FRC in London, and am wondering when is the best time to go. Has anyone experience of when are good days to go, and also which days/times are best avoided? Am hoping to go on a quiet day! Penny
