Everything is controlled via the Viewer software. Just load your first CD, then using the viewer enter your search fields. It will prompt you to load whichever is the required CD to find those names.

Hi I have the VRI, and if I remember correctly you have to put the viewer CD back in again...took me ages to work out! Hope this helps! Sally, Coventry

Thanks for the advice, but I'm still having a nightmare with it.if I click on add a resource file it says "install disc 1" every time and if I click on resource file viewer it says "install any disc" but comes up a file is missing or invalid. Help!

when you open the viewer, do you get 2 options? 1 says click here to add a resource file and the other says Vital Records Index? Sally

hi Amanda, yes I have tried that, I don't know what else to try, I think I'm gonna give up for the night. I'm pretty new to all this and thought maybe it was something obvious, I only received them today and was looking forward to spending the night searching, but it's always the way, never mind, thanks anyway, Tracy.

Hi Sally, yes that's what I get, can you put some light on it? Tracy.

Hi again Sorry to take so long - I was off reading the Guest Book! When you click on the Vital Records Index (Option 2), you will need to have already inserted the disc you want to look at in the drive, otherwise you will get a message like 'Please insert any disc ....' Is that what you are seeing? Try putting in a CD before you click on the second option.... what happens then? Sally

Sally, Just tried, but know luck, it comes up file missing or invalid. Tracy.

Which CD are you putting in the drive? Make sure that you have taken out the Viewer CD and have put one of the data CD's in. We will sort this for you tonight! Sally

Amanda, what do you mean by shortcut? Sally, I've put in the resource file viewer and that seems ok, then it says install disc 1 that goes ok, but when I go back on add a resource file it says install disc 1 again. ahhh, it's driving me mad. Tracy.

you dont actually need to install all of the CD's onto your computer. You just install the viewer, and then put in what ever CD you want to look at. The Shortcut is the icon...have you got that on you Windows main page? Sally

Tracey I have just uninstalled my VRI and reinstalled it to try and see what is happening. You have loaded the viewer, and then CD1 and thats all you need to do! You DO NOT need to install anymore. I think that you are maybe trying to install the other CD's too? If that is the case, then you dont need to do that, you just start looking at the CD's you want to search. Am i making sense? Is that the error you are getting? Sally

Amanda/Sally, Yes I have got it on my main page.(I said I was new to this), I've just tried again, nothing! It says click here to add a resource file to this list , I click, then it says insert disc 1, I've tried putting in different discs but it won't let me, just says disc 1. but even though disc 1 loads it's surpose to have births and christenings A on and theres nothing! Tracy.

Tracey Underneath where it says click here to add a resource file, do you have another option which says Vital Records Index - British Isles? If so click on that...... Sally

Sally-Anne

Sally-Anne Report 26 Sep 2003 23:55

If not, and you only have click here to add a rescource file, then click on that....Do you then get Insert the following CD Disk 1 of the new Resource File? Sally Dont worry - we will sort this out!
