TECHNICAL HELP

Hi Tracy Most of the tech help should get you going, so no need to repeat. Try this:- Clean the CD! Wipe gently with a lint free cloth from the centre outwards [not round and round]. Might sound silly, but even a fingermark or speck of dirt can sometimes be the cause of "error - unable to read" or similar. Badger Bill, Worthing

Hi all, Thanks for all you suggestions and help, unfortunately I still haven't manage to correct the problem, I'm going to try the discs in another computer and see what happens, if they don't work it must be a software problem and I'll get in touch with the supplier. thanks again, Tracy.

Tracy, I don't have the CDs yet but it it possible to uninstall the viewer and then reinstall it? Also, what system are you running? To unistall and reinstall: Complete the following steps: Remove each resource file from the viewer menu. 1. Open the Resource File Viewer by clicking Start, then Programs, then Family History, and then Resource File Viewer. 2. Click one of the resource file names. 3. Press Delete. 4. Answer yes to the question that appears. Repeat this process for each resource file on the viewer menu. When you have finished deleting resource files from the viewer menu, the only thing that should remain on the menu is Click here to add a Resource File to this list. Uninstall Resource File Viewer 2.0. 1. Click Start, then Programs, then Family History, and then Resource File Viewer - uninstall. 2. Double-click My Computer, then C: drive, and then Program Files. 3. Right-click RFViewer and choose Delete. 4. Restart the computer. Reinstall Resource File Viewer 2.0 and add resource files to the viewer menu. 1. Disable any background programs that may be running, such as virus checkers, using one of the following options: a. Right-click the small icons next to the time display. From the list of options, select Disable. b. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del, click the program name, and then click End Task. 2. Install Resource File Viewer 2.0 a. Insert the Resource File Viewer 2.0 disc into the drive. b. Click Start, then Run. c. Type the letter for your CD-ROM drive, followed by a colon and setup.exe. (For example, E:setup.exe.) d. Click OK. e. Follow the instructions on the screen. 3. Add resource files to the viewer menu by clicking Start, then Programs, then Family History, then Resource File Viewer, and then Click here to add a Resource File to this list. Crista

Hi Tracey, not much of a techie, but I think the viewer cd has to go in first. If you have already done this, then try rebooting your machine. As my husband says, when in doubt, reboot. It might just work.
