It may also be possible that if they say they are deceased, they may not be. They weren't always honest about ages, so unless you have proof that they died, they might still be alive. I also have the Herbert, Bertram mix on certs. Ros

I suppose it depends on what the registrar was told, if they don't ask if father is dead or alive, then the info is not necessarily volunteered. As for names maybe it was what the bride or groom thought they were normally called, after all Christian names were not widely used, even between husband and wife

They dont make it easy, it is quite like a logic puzzle this genealogy.

I understood that if the father were dead then the word "deceased" would be put after father's name - however on some of my certs. some of the daddies were dead and it was not noted, some were dead and noted accordingly and some even had the wrong christian names noted - so, anything goes I think. On a wedding certificate it has a column that states Fathers name, does this mean that they were alive at the time of the wedding or is it just a standard part of the form that is filled in. Just realised that this could be responisble for throwing some of my reasearch.
