I have found some possible ancestors, with a little help from my friends here, and as the name implies "index", is it just that? If I look at the film mentioned, would it give me more information? |

Thanks Brenda, I thought it was an index to actual films held by the LDS, which may have had more info. |

If you want information from the LDS records, there may be a local LDS Record Centre near you. Your local Library may be able to give you that information. |

Hi there Carol, When you find an ancestor on the IGI it also tells you the source and a Film No. Take this number to your nearest LDS centre and they will order a copy for you to look at. It will cost about 3 pounds The film will actually be a copy of the Parish Records so you can see what is actually recorded. There will almost certainly be more information on the film than on the IGI such as the address of the parents and the fathers occupation in the case of a baptism and a full copy of a marriage if after 1837. To find your nearest LDS centre try Family Search web page which is run by the LDS Happy searching |

Can you do request this by post? or does it have to be a visit. Tricia |

Hi there, When you order a film it is delivered to the LDS centre where you ordered it and can only be seen at that centre. It would be impossible for you to look at it at home as you need a large film reader to do so. Mary Beckett |

Hi Carol Have a look at their site, where you will find a list of all their centres in the UK. You might be surprised by the number they have. There is one within walking distance of my house, and I never knew!! |

Thanks to all who replied. There is a LDS centre quite close to me, I was there on Monday, and I am going again Friday. I was just wondering if it was worth finding the films, as they should have them for Devon. (I am in Plymouth) Maybe I should have made myself more clear, but then we genealogists are not used to clarity, especially if you have tried reading some ancient records. |
