Hi everyone. Having been trying to get some new info out of the recently updated BMD site and got the usual frustration of web-site unavailable or Sorry server busy etc, decided to have a nose round the rest of the site and some of the info is quite interesting, graphs etc. I expect seasoned Geno's already know this but fairly newbies (like me) may not. If on the home-page you click on 'Join FreeBMD' Scroll down to the highlighted 'Start a Syndicate' click, and then to 'check out periods available' click, up comes Syndicate Allocation along with B,M&Ds and blocks of years. Do the usual, choose, click and show. The info that comes up will not find your person or event but if you know roughly what year you want it will show you what months of each year are still to be transcribed. These could be used as a useful starting point if visiting the F.R.C. or similar. Perhaps we ought to start our own GC Syndicate!! expect there's a rule agains't it though. Lynn.

I didn't realise that Linda - thanks for the tip. I get sick of logging on to check whether or not the entry I'm looking for has been transcribed yet (no disrespect intended to those wonderful transcribers who do a wonderful job, I can assure you - I don;t know what I would have done without you really - bless you my children!!). Will try your suggestion and see if it lessens the frustration. Jacqui

I'm always frustrated that there are so few deaths recorded, in comparison to births and marriages. Just look at the bar charts showing the percent transcribed for each year and you'll see what I mean. It's a conspiracy to keep us from being depressed by death. Even the Vital Records Index only does births, marriages and Christenings.

I am a transcriber for this site, and I am doing deaths at the moment. I do the transcribing in the morning, then on the net at night. I find it hard to transcribe with artificial light, (age doesn`t come alone)

I wasn't having a dig at the transcribers. I was simply saying that it is far more difficult to find info on deaths than births and marriages.

I also transcribe for FreeBMD and get allocations sent to me. As far as I know the allocations are not sent by request, you get what they send out and I have certainly done more pages of deaths than anything else, I got to the point when I felt I should be wearing black when transcribing! Then, as if my thoughts had been read, I was allocated 6 pages of births so I was pretty chirpy. I have just received my latest allocation and ....it's deaths again. keep smiling and searching michele

Nudging up as similar thread also at the moment. Am definatley going to have a go at transcribing now.

Is there any co-operation between Free BMD and the County Sites (eg Yorkshire BMD) or are they working independently? I find it frustrating having so many 1852- ???? sort of dates on my tree as deaths post 1901 are hard to track down.
