Hi Jane, glad a2a was useful. You need to get in touch with the repository that has the document. That is listed a the side of the document, there are details on the website. Check the 'new a2a users' on the header. Steph

For Herefordshire a search for 'Wills of Herefordshire' takes you to outlines of wills posted by various people, who you can then contact if you find a family link, - Not much use in answer to Somerset but other counties may have a similar set up.

Hi, It is pre 1858 - I mistyped in my message above. Not all the wills are online yet, it is an ongoing project. There are books indexing all PCC wills in the library at Kew and in most record offices. Gwynne

try this to take you to the right page www(.)pro(.)gov(.)uk/online/docsonline(.)html (take out brackets) Click on the PCC link in the text. This has all wills pre 1858 (I think) that were proved at Canterbury. This includes all of the South of England. The North of England were proved at York but these are not online. If a person had property in the North and South, Canterbury ruled York. If you find the will you want you can dowmload for about £3. But I warn you they are very difficult to read!!!

In Birmingham libary are books with lists of pre 1838 wills for each county as well as the PCC wills, maybe a library near you also has these books. They give names and dates plus reference numbers. There are national indexes for post 1838 wills in most record offices and in some larger libraries. Hope this helps, Gwynne
