Iahave a birth certificate for Joseph Worthington born 12 May 1848 which states father John Worthington , occupation engineer, mother Ann formerly Jones. I have been on FreeBMD and also paid £5 on 1837 but nothing. I even chanced a marriage certificate but that was wrong so they charged me for the search. I don't know where else to look for them. Anyone got any ideas please. May just wanted to add its the parents i am looking for

Have you been able to look at the 1851 census, some of Staffordshire is available on CD, I think. This would hopefully show where Josephs parents were born, if he had any older siblings etc. Don't forget, that they might have got married when Joseph was on the way or even have been born, they also might not have got married. If you can get access, then try having a look at the indexes yourself.

Hi Marian, Thanks for looking but the date is wrong as they had Joseph in 1848 so must have been married before that. Thanks anyway May

Hi Ros, No I haven't been able to look at 1851 census. Where would I get this. Only been researching a few months so not sure of my way around yet. May
