My Dad found a newspaper cutting about a lady with the same surname as ours being murdered by her lover in 1892, and her lover subsequently hanged. As she was married, it is her husband who may be connected to us. I have the lady`s death certificate, but can`t find any reference to her husband anywhere, even the 1891 census. This was in the Bristol area and his name was Joseph FLEW

My grandfather's cousin was hung in 1913 for murdering his sweetheart in a crime of passion. Found it by accident on the net. He is featured in the first of a series called Grave Detectives to be shown on HTV West in November for those who live in the west country namely Bristol.

I've been on the Old Bailey website and the punishments for trivial crimes are quite horrific! Deportation for stealing a handkerchief, or even branding! Ugh. Penny

Hi Vanessa Afraid nothing as exciting/terrible as that has happened in my family - yet! Are you able to order a copy of the document? It seems an awfully stiff punishment or were any lives lost in the fire? Jeanette

Have just found on A2A a document concerning the arrest of one of my relatives for setting fire to a barn and his execution on the 5th January 1834. Has anyone else found incredible historical details like this?
