I do see what you mean! He could have muddled up the names of the two! It defintely says Caroline as the wife and Mary Ann as the daughter. I can see I will prbably have to buy a certificate of one of the younger children to see who the mother is. Then I will know if it was an error of the enumerator or if Mary Ann did die and the father changed his daughters name for a while. Thankyou! |

In our game, anything is possible. On the 1901, did you look at the actual image, or just the transcription? It is possible for the transcriber to start on one line, then complete it from the next. As an example hypothetical family Smith John Head 35 Smith Jane Wife 34 Smith Sarah Daughter 16 Transcriber may have typed Smith Jane Wife 16 Do you see what I am getting at? |

Caroline Upton born 1884 Parents Freddie and Mary Ann Upton All together 1891, she is 7 as expected. Now it looks as if her mother died in between census and a new wife Caroline was found. In 1901 census shows Mary Ann Upton 17 living with them. I cannot find Caroline in 1901 and I cannot find Mary Ann in 1891 Both are born in Camberwell. Could they be the same person????? Barbara |
