Member Since: April 2003 Posts: 52 Send Message	Hi Brian I do agree with you 3 of my mums eldest siblings were registered under a different surname. nan and grandad used this name for six years, by the time the 4th child came along they were back to using thier real name for what reason i still have to find, it may have been because of a bankrupcy.You do need to cross reference as it was so easy then (1890s) to change names. good hunting jan

Member Since: May 2003 Posts: 0 Send Message	I have researched my family line to about 1770's my gggrandfather a Nathanial Mounsher married in 1839 to a Caroline Guard but by the 1841 census he was calling himself Evans which he continued to do untill 1882 census when he goes back to Mounsher, 1891 he's back to Evans, his son(my ggrandfather) is calling himself Mounsher in 1881 1891 but in 1901 he is now Evans on the census. On my fathers birth certificate he was a Mounsher but at school was called Evans??? So when checking names do not just rely on a name ages,addresses,and place of birth are so important to marry it all together. Any comments on this??
