Hello Helen, the info i have found is Emma Williams age 3 years was living at 23 Mariabourne st Portsea with her father Henry age 33 a labourer on the railways born Portsea Hants, mother Mary Williams at home age 29 born Portsea brothers and sisters of Emma are Elizabeth age 10 a scholar, Charles age 8 a Scholar Clara age 2 and Isabella age one month all born Portsea, also living in the house hold is Isabella Smith age 74 mother a widow born Scotland. It doesn't say who's mother she is. Henry Williams married Mary Ann White on the 16th December 1841 St Mary's Portsmouth. I have checked for a susan Emma but have found none, and there are no other Emma's near this age in the 1851 census. I have had a quick look at the 1891 census but can only find a Thomas Lock(e) so far. let me know if there is anything else you would like me to look up for you. Eileen

Hello Eileen, Thank-you for your offer of help. Emma Williams is a new discovery so I don't know much about her. She married Thomas Locke, a tailor, near Rochester/Chatham, Kent, which doesn't help, BMD give a birth as Dec.1847 although on the IGI she is named Susan Emma Williams - could be two different people! On the 1881 census she is Emma Lock(e) living at 32 Chalton Street Portsea. You're right, it seems to be a huge family, and with the connection with Rochester and Chatham (naval dockyards) I wondered if Thomas was a ship's tailor and Emma's father was at sea. If you could find Thomas and Emma on the 1891 and/or Emma's family on the 1851 I would be forever in your debt! Thank-you very much. Helen
