Thank U everyone for your help I have been trying for over a year to sort this one out on my dads side. He was born out of wedlock so was Florence and apparently so was her Mother, so I think that maybe this is going to take along time, just like the aurthor who wrote the book roots which took him 12 years ha! Hi Sharron, I had exactly the same problem and it turned out my nan had changed her surname before she was married. Luckily for me I managed to find her birth surname but it is confusing. Unless you have someone in your family who can help you more then I don't know what else you can do. Sorry, good luck in finding her. Laurie

There is a Florence WALTERS on 1901 of the right age b Carlisle, census place Rickergate Cumberland. Could be a mistranscription.

Hi Sharon, the details given on a death cert are only as good as the details the next of kin has given, so they may have made her older or younger than she really was (my uncle was out by two years when registering my nans death) she was very funny about her age, so maybe you'll have to go back further .

May be a silly question, but are you looking for her birth under the name on the death certificate, as that is probably her married name? I have made that mistake before now.

Can someone HELP! I've been on the 1837 online and I have found my G.Grandmothers death, which said she was born on 28 July 1895, but when I look up for her birth there is no trace of a Florence Walker born in Carlisle in July 1985. I have looked also right though 1894 aswell and can not even find her on the 1901 census. Please can someone give me some clues. sharron
