From what I have gathered my 2xGreat grandfather was killed by a winch in between christmas and New Year 1906 at a shipyard in Sunderland. Does anyone know how to find records of accidents that happened in shipyards around the turn of the century. Tried my local archive centre and they weren't really much help.

Hello Kay, don't know if this will be of any use but you could try the PRO in Kew-they hold the coal mining accident records so they may very well hold shipyard accident records as well.Good luck in your searches,Sinead

What and exactly where are you looking for?? My grandfather had an accident at Thames Ironworks, and although I haven't looked yet, their works magazine is kept at Newham Library. If it is a large scale accident, then the local main library or county record office should have details, and also remember to look for reports in local or national newspapers. If you put more details on here of what you are looking for, someone may well know. Maz. XX
