No Need to travel to London. The LDS centres and some larger libraries have the indices as well.

It's cheaper for me to use 1837online than mess about travelling to London.

Re the 1837. I use it quite a bit and even for my Joneses I can often get the one I want within 3 tries. I reckon that the "e" is going to bring me somewhere around the 3rd page, then consider the given name initial and make a stab at that one. Then once I've found someone I make a note of where they came among so many pages and can work out some kind of rough formula for future look ups. I always use the IGI and freebmd first of course if possible. Happy hunting, Di.

Thanks Max. Sorry to be pedantic but is it the same as 1837, where if you don't know the year of death, you spend a fortune on trying to find the name you require, or are the names listed for you to view. Hope that made sense Tricia

Do you get to view any details of the event or is it just a reference number of the certificate that you need to order. Tricia

i read than you can take copies with a digital camera if u have one........dunno how true this is

Not sure how much they charge, but it may be an idea to make a note of quarters and years and the registration district, then order certificate direct from the register office concerned. That will cost £7

IT JUST THAT on some of the later indexes....it doesn't give the name of the person who they married for marriage indexes and then it doesn't give maiden name for births....do you have to order the certificates at the frc to then see this information. How much does that cost?????

It doesn't cost anything to visit the FRC or to view any material (indexes, censuses, etc). Obviously you pay for any certificates you want ordering. The indexes that you view are the ones that are available through the 1837 site.

Wondered if anyone could tell me does it cost to go into the FRC office in London. I am thinking about going there. I know you have to pay for copies etc. How much more information do you get than what you get on the Indexes on 1837online, Be grateful if someone could get back to me on this, cos i think I need more detailed info to trace back from my Great Grand Parents
