Sarah NO - I definitely WASN'T on my computer at 03.57 this morning!! It was actually 00.03.57!! (Just past midnight! It was the last thing I did before I went to bed!) Got me worried there for a moment ......... thought I'd had a blackout or something! Thanks for the tip - I hadn't realised about the clicking on the Heading to re-order the list. As I said before, I'm sure I don't use it to its full advantage, as there's so much to this program, you just keep learning new things all the time. June The only way I know to check if a name has been double entered is to do a 'report' in the form of a 'list' to check for duplicate entries. Whether there's a way of checking as you go along I'm not sure. Perhaps someone else knows? Janet

What does LDS stand for?

Janet

Janet Report 16 Oct 2003 17:26

Amie LDS stands for Latter Day Saints. Their website is the familysearch one in the Resource Centre on this site and is under 'useful links'. Janet

Hi, LDS stands for Latter Day Saints. It certainly is a great program. There's so much to it, the instructions are so good and it's all free!! Di.

I'm just wondering how Jacqui is getting on. The last we heard of her, she was having dinner on Tuesday and intended to have a go with the PAF afterwards? Are you still struggling Jacqui? Janet

Hi, Yes I'm still playing with this thing and have just found something else which I think is really good. I had noticed that if you select search at the top, you can select the Family Search LDS, and I thought it was just a short cut to the link. Have just been messing on it now, and if you have your list of individuals on screen and have someone highlighted, then select Search then Family Search LDS, it actually searches for that person and brings up all the hits. Is this really cool or what? What? You all knew that anyway!! Hope it helps someone else with limited knowledge like myself!! Sarah

Does anyone know if PAF 5.2 has a 'checking' facility which you can use to see if anyone is floating around not connected to someone else? Hope you know what I mean LOL!!!

Hi Helen, Not absolutely sure on this but if you right click and select reports, then lists, you get different options u can select. I think unlinked individuals is one, also possible problems, I've just tried that and it shows things that can't be true with the dates I've given, so I've gone drastically wrong somewhere I think!! You could try that!! Sarah

One final plea for help. Had a marriage where female was recorded as 'unknown', found details but instead of updating the unknown I have added another partner. Now I can't suss out how to get rid of the unknown.

Unknown

Unknown Report 23 Oct 2003 14:37

Hi Helen, If you're sure of the person, you highlight the individual, think u right click then delete. But check, cos it may delete linked individuals, it asks you thought to confirm and tells u what will happen!! Bring the person to primary position first!! Good luck!! Sarah

I have been useing this file, and i think its great, but does anyone know how to email it? i would like to send it to my brother in austraila!! David

Janet

Janet Report 23 Oct 2003 16:55

David I've only e-mailed reports to family members. I did this by saving the report as a Rich Text file and sent it as an attachment. If you wanted to send the whole tree, I think you have to create a gedcom file and export it? Perhaps someone else has done this, and can advise you? Anyone? Janet

Rosemary Thanks for the tip on adding a spouse, Will be trying that later. Helen. You could get rid of the unknown by going to the Tool Bar and clicking on Merge, I found this very good for any duplications, do watch out for relatives though! June,Nr.Preston.Lan.

Hi Sarah, I couldn't suss it out at first either and just basically started added names. If you add an individual, you enter their name dob etc and just went from there. Then where it said father, click on that box and enter his details and so on. I do find it easier though when I'm entering info on one person, to highlight that box, click edit and move them to primary. Once you get the hang of it, its okay but I found just ploughing in there and then messing around clicking on buttons to see what else I could do. Hope it makes sense, if you have any more problems I'll try and help although I'm not a whizz on it by any means, but think I'm getting there. Sarah

Hi Thanks for the info, but i think we must of been looking at 2 different files. All i had was a blank screen and i tried clicking on everything but nothing happened. Anyway i closed it and reopened it and then a screen appeared . However this did not happen the 1st time. So i opened a new file and ive just started entering my infomation. Thanks for your help. Sarah

Sarah (Castle) Very good tip about the Search on FamilySearch Internet! I hadn't sussed that one - saves a lot of time and messing about, doesn't it? I thought it was just a quick link too! Anyone else got any good tips? Janet
