I can do the look ups but I do need an exact address with a house number and district, preferably a registraion district otherwise I have to guess by using a contemporary map and that all takes time. I'm not sure of what response I will get and how much time it would take so in the first instance can we keep the requests down to about 10. After that I will have more idea of how much time it takes - Sylvie Update NB It takes my laptop 15+ minutes to scan the 991 pages of the 71 Street Indexes for the whole of London so being specific about an area does help enormously. I will post another offer next week sometime. I think these are all done - let me know if I've missed you Sylvie

For Sue I can find a Southfiels, Southfields Road and Terrace, a Southmead Road, South Parade, South Road and South Street but noi Southdean Gdns - any ideas? For Ruth There is an entry for 257 Southwark Bridge Road but there is nothing beside it - not even an entry to show that it is uninhabited - send me an email with the details again and I will browse through to the end of the area tonight - just incase it has been added at the end. ForThomas - there are Westbrookes, Barretts, Burgess, Rilett. Belsford and Crowther at that address For Alison, No Clilverds I'm afraid. Stanley Mews is uninhabited and I can only find Cold Bath Square, as Great Bath Street - at your number there are the names Colis Surrell and what looks like Yerlett. I had rellies in Stanley Mews too!!! These are disappointing results - but at least they tell you something!! Sylvie

FOR JANET There is a Livinstone Road and a Livingstone Coots, both in Wandsworth. No record on the index of a Livinston Terrace - any more ideas about where it might be near - othr roads??? If not - it may be worth your going to Lost London Streets and having a nose around FOR SHIRLEY Simeon (or perhaps Simsom) Miles with Ellen, Upton Simeon Ellen Sarah Henry Can these names be real? Sorry they don't seem to be yours Sylvie

FOR SHANNETTE Which census. I can't find Chamberlayne Mansions on the 1891 - or Willesden for that matter - I do have Kensal Green/Rise etc so it may just be that it was actually outside of the London area. I think yours is the last one I am dealing with at the moment so email me if you want me to look at the 71 or if you have more info. Sylvie

Hi David I don't think so unless you have an address (it would take all day - no three - to look through all the streets in HArrow) and you are sure Harrow on the Hill is in London - I thought it was in Middlesex?? Sorry Sylvie

Eileen Report 16 Oct 2003 14:55

hi sylvie i thought it would it would be no go! do you know if middlesex is on a 1871 census? thanks anyway eileen

Janet

Janet Report 16 Oct 2003 15:07

Hi Sylvie, Trust me to make a mistake. It is Wandsworth 8 Livingston Terrace, Wandsworth. On the 1881 census it comes between Edgill Street and Ferrier Street. If you do find it (hopefully) there appears to be more than one entry for each number. The family I am interested in is Alfred George born 1843 Battersea Thanks Janet
