This is the ONLY James Moon marriage in the Hastings area on BMD: Surname First name(s) Age District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Dec 1854 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bartlett Catherine Judith Hastings 2b 45 GASTON Mary Ann Lewes 2b 45 Lock Henry William Hastings 2b 45 Martin Mary Hastings 2b 45 Moon James Hastings 2b 45 As you can see, its not complete, but it seems to be a male missing rather than a female. But I suppose it could be one male and two females missing, you just never know. Still seems a cross check on 1837 would be the next step. Do let me know if you find anything. Just noticed, Mary Ann Gaston is Lewes, not Hastings. How odd. Let hope she isn't the extra woman so that the records match. Bother. Jan.

This is what it says in the 1881: William MOON Head M Male 25 St Leonards, Sussex, England Grocers Assistant Anna E. MOON Wife M Female 26 Bexhill, Sussex, England Grocers Assistant Wife -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Dwelling 12 Southwater Road Census Place Hastings St Leonards, Sussex, England That is so interesting, because there used to be a grocer's shop in Southwater Road, it closed about 5 or 6 yrs ago, I wonder if that was where he assisted? Haven't been able to find anything concrete yet about his or his parent's marriages. Jan.

The only one I found that looks possible is James Moon, December quarter 1854, Hastings 2b 45 - but there wasn't an Elizabeth Tindall to go with it. If you have any credits left on the 1837 site, it might be worth cross checking that quarter to see if Elizabeth's name is shown there. The date seems to be a good one. Jan

Found these in the 1881 census - do you know if he had a middle initial? 1. Wm. H. MOON - 1881 British Census / Sussex Head Gender: Male Birth: <1855> Hastings, Sussex, England 2. William MOON - 1881 British Census / Sussex Head Gender: Male Birth: <1856> St Leonards, Sussex, England The first one above was a fisherman, wife's name Elizabeth (they were living at Bexhill though); the second a Grocers Assistant, wife's name Anna, living in St. Leonards, so he seems the better bet. Jan in St. Leonards on Sea, East Sussex
