cant find them on census can anybody help?

this is really starting to get to me, i have been trying to find my greatgrandad and family on the 1901 census for glasgow for about 5 months, family have told me he was definetly living in glasgow with his wife and 2 children, i have spent a fortune looking for them tried all different varients in spelling still nothing.does anybody have any suggestions.if i could find him on the census could get his definate place of birth, any help greatly appreciated cheers jackie .

hi max , sorry this is a different family . there names are james mccarroll born around 1877 annie mccarroll 1878 james mccarroll 1896 elizabeth 1900 , children were born in glasgow. there surname was also spelt mccarrol , seams to change back and forwards , they have been a real puzzle . do you have any ideas. regards jackiex

hi again max . thanks for taking the time to look . margaret has tried to help me already she looked for him when she went to the records office in edinburgh and couldnt find hin , will just have to wait until i get time to take the trip to edinburgh and have a good search, thanks for all your help max . regards jackie xx

Hi there Jackie, Have you tried just putting in Carroll, leaving the Mc off, I have been looking for a marriage for several years looking for Lally and when I finally found it, they had put a Mul in front to make it Mullally. Mary
