I am just reviving this thread as I visited the cemetery recently and it is a really interesting place. Quite nice even for just a walk. |

My 3 greats grandmother was buried there in 1858. The reference I had from the website was Burial 020110 Section C04 Index 1S09. I visited the Cemetery and located the area from the map (about 20m by 10m I think). It was incredibly overgrown. As far as possible I inspected many head stones, but without success. I then went to the visitor's centre where they were able from the burial number to tell me that burial was in a "common grave" and would have been marked with a very small stone at ground level. There was very little chance of locating the exact spot because of the vegetation. So I failed to get the hoped for headstone inscription. Also, I am still trying to find her maiden name. There are some very elaborate memorials, Perhaps you will be lucky. |

You can take a virtual tour of this cemetary on the net. I was able to see whereabouts my families graves were in on the tour. The site also has links to other cemetary sites. http://www(.)abney-park(.)org(.)uk/ |

Marcia That's the address I've got - and I've just checked, and I can still get in OK. If you're still having a problem - post your granddad's full name, and I'll check it for you. Janet |

I oftern check this site when i find a new surname. As you know its not that easy going up and down the UK going round the churchyards checking the headstones. Iam sure there are other sites like this where you can check to see if a relative is buried there. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb(.)com/~abneypark/abneyy(.)html. Sorry iam sure that there is a shorter web address, i got this threw another link many moons ago. Sarah |
